The European Parliament approved the proposal for a Directive on the copyright in the digital single market

After debate, on 12.09.2018 the European parliament approved the proposal for the Copyright Directive – whereas the controversial art. 11 and art. 13 thereof were also introduced, which assign additional obligations for the protection of authors to internet platforms. For the moment the EU still prefers to let these matters be finalized in terms of EU legislation procedure and at a national level – which means that the application of this regime shall depend on the introduction of national legislative measures, as in the case of every Directive. With the approval of the proposal for the Directive a clear direction for the change of the digital single market – now the only questions that remains standing is what platforms will have to do to guarantee compliance with the new requirements.
