Uwe Kaergel
Uwe Kärgel was licensed as an attorney-at law in 1971.
In 1976 he founded his first law firm, the predecessor to what is today Kärgel De Maizière & Partner, Berlin. Since 1981 until the end of his legally allowed tenure, in 2012, Uwe Kärgel worked as a notary public in Berlin.
His current professional interests encompass specialized areas of corporate law, commercial law and tort law.
Between 1981 and 1988 Uwe Kärgel was a member of the board of the Berlin Bar Association, in addition to which he was a long-standing elected member of the statutory college of the Federal Bar Association.
Between 1981 and 2003 he was a member of the board of the Berlin Bar, whose Chairman he was elected in 1989.
In 2003 he was elected Honorary Chairman of the Berlin Bar.
Between 1991 and 1999, Uwe Kärgel was a member of the board of the German Bar Association.
In 1995, he was elected one of its vice-chairmen, in addition to which, in 1997, he was appointed its treasurer.
Between 1987 and 1990 he was the Chairman of the Association of Independent Professionals in Berlin.
For his contribution to the professional guild, Uwe Kärgel was awarded the Order of Merit with Ribbon in 1995 and the Order of Merit First Class of the Federal Republic of Germany, in 2003.
In 1999, he was conferred the Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria.
From 2004 till 2018, Uwe Kärgel was a member of the Praesidium of the German Red Cross-Red Cross Berlin, and since 2012 he has served as its Chairman. As recognition for his extensive contribution to the activity of Red Cross Berlin, in July 2023 Uwe Kärgel was bestowed the honour of being appointed as honorary president of the German Red Cross-Red Cross Berlin.
Uwe Kärgel has held various positions in supervisory/advisory boards and was a member of the International Bar Association, the International Business Academy, and an honorary member of AUE.
