With amendments to the Measures and Actions during the State of Emergency Declared with a Decision of the National Assembly from 13 March 2020 and Overcoming the Consequences Act an extended term of validity is provided for Bulgarian identity documents, including for citizens of the EU and foreigners

With an Act for amendment and supplementation of the Measures and Actions during the State of Emergency Declared with a Decision of the National Assembly from 13 March 2020 and Overcoming the Consequences Act, promulgated in issue 98 from 17.11.2020 of State Gazette, an extended term of validity is provided for the ID documents of Bulgarian citizens, citizens of the EU and foreigners, which expire in the period between 13.03.2020 and 31.01.2021. The term of validity is extended by 6 month from the date of expiry of these documents.
The extended term applies only on the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria, whereas the documents of Bulgarian citizens can be accepted as valid by third countries within this period, under discretion f their authorities.
For persons, who reside in Bulgaria on basis of a visa-free regime or a short-term visa, anoptin is provided to require extension of the permitted term of residence with up to 3 months on basis of humanitarian reasons.
